BURNED OUT GETAWAY CAR FOUND—used in IRA kidnap plot

June 1974
Terrorists are holding the kidnapped Earl of Donoughmore and his wife in a remote mountain hide-out in Southern Ireland. Security chiefs came to the conclusion that they were holed up in mountains south of Dublin after the kidnappers’ burned-out getaway car was found nearby. On Wednesday night (5-6-74) a massive search by troops and police was concentrated on the area. Detectives believe that the gang who dragged the earl and coutness into a car outside their mansion in Tipperary early on Wednesday are members of the Provisional Irish Republican Army. No ransom has yet been named – but it is expected that the gang will demand that the Price sisters and other IRA hunger-strikers should be sent to serve their sentences in Northern Ireland.
