FLEET STREET BLUES—union boss nailed with 10,000-pound strike fine

August 16 1982
Union leader Sean Geraghty must pay more than 10,000 pounds for a strike which stopped national newspapers being printed in Fleet Street. The electricians’ leader was fined 350 pounds for defying a High Court order to call off Wednesday’s 24-hour strike, which itself was called as an act of sympathy with the health workers who are campaigning for higher wages. Mr. Geraghty, 46, who works for the Daily Mirror, was ordered to pay court costs estimated at more than 10,000 pounds.
